Board & workflow

The board is a kanban over a strict status machine:

matched → pursuing → tailored → applied → screen → interview → offer

plus dismissed, which is reversible (dismissed → matched) — reconsidering is normal. Screen is a recruiter screen or phone call; it is optional — an application can go straight to Interview.

Illegal jumps are rejected by the server (e.g. matched → interview), and date_applied is stamped exactly once, the first time a posting reaches applied. History is append-only — no one, including Jobably, can rewrite it.

Two axes: the stage reached, and what came back

An application does not only move forward. From Applied on, every card carries an ended: row — rejected, withdrawn, accepted — because their decision is a different fact from how far you got. A card that ends leaves the columns for the Closed list under the board, which says both: rejected · reached interview. “Rejected at applied” (no human read it) and “rejected after an interview” are not the same outcome, and the list never blurs them. Closed stays closed; the history holds the trail.

The Dashboard’s What came back tiles are the tally: still open, rejected, withdrawn, accepted, the average days to hear back, and the share of applications that got an answer at all.

Drag cards between columns, or use the Move to… menu on each card — it lists only the legal next stages and is fully keyboard-accessible.

Pursuing and Tailored are mirrors

The work between Matched and Applied — tailoring, reviewing, building the document, marking it applied — happens on the Pursuing screen, where each posting shows its stage and one action. The Board’s Pursuing and Tailored columns show the same cards and point across.

Waiting on a reply

Five days after a posting reaches applied with nothing back, its card shows how long it has waited and it appears in the dashboard’s “Waiting on a reply” list. This is an age, not a prompt to chase: on most application portals there is nothing to send, so the count is for knowing when to write one off. It clears the moment the status changes.
